If you have a sore, lump, ulcer or patch that hasn't settled, no matter how small it seems, don't sit on it. Come in and have it checked. Dr Giffen will carry out a thorough examination, explain exactly what he finds, and guide you through the next steps, whether that's reassurance or further investigation.

If your dentist has told you your extraction is too complex for them to carry out, you don't need to sit and wait to be seen. As a Specialist Oral Surgeon, Dr Giffen sees referred patients quickly for complex, surgical or difficult extractions — so you can get it sorted and move on.
Orthodontic

If your orthodontist has flagged an impacted or ectopic tooth — or an extra, supplemental tooth blocking things up — getting it sorted quickly matters, especially while your brace treatment is under way. Dr Giffen carries out tooth exposure and bonding, and removal of extra teeth, promptly on referral, so your orthodontic treatment can keep moving without unnecessary delay

No referral is needed — you’re welcome to book directly to come and see us. If your dentist, GP or another specialist has referred you, please bring any referral letters, X-rays or scans you have to your first appointment so we have a complete picture of your care.
Dr Giffen is a registered Specialist Consultant Oral Surgery, offering the full range of oral surgery and oral medicine care, including:

Yes. We see both self-pay (private) patients and those with dental or health insurance. If you have insurance, we can bill your insurer directly for eligible treatment — see ‘Do you work with dental/health insurance providers?’ below for details.
Please bring any referral letters from your dentist or GP, a list of your current medications, and any relevant X-rays, scans or medical reports you may have. If you have dental or health insurance, please also bring your policy or membership number.
This depends on the type of anaesthesia you’re having. If your procedure is under local anaesthetic (awake), you can eat a light meal and drink normally beforehand.
If you’re having a general anaesthetic (asleep), you’ll need to fast (no food or drink, including water) for a set period beforehand. We’ll confirm your specific fasting instructions when your procedure is booked.
We offer local anaesthetic for most procedures, so you’re awake but the area is fully numbed.
For more complex or lengthy surgery, general anaesthetic can be arranged, carried out at a hospital or day surgery unit with a specialist anaesthetist.
We’ll discuss which option is most suitable for your procedure and preferences during your consultation.
Costs vary depending on the treatment you need, so we’ll always give you a clear, written quote after your consultation before any treatment goes ahead.
The hospitals offer payment plans through a third-party finance provider, so you can spread the cost of treatment if you’d prefer.

Yes, we offer video consultations for patients who would prefer not to, or are unable to, attend in person for an initial assessment. This is particularly useful for patients being referred from further afield, or those who’d like an initial opinion before travelling in for treatment. Let our team know when you book if you’d like a video consultation.

(Mon–Fri, excluding bank holidays):
Tuesday appointment → cancel by Thursday the week before
After this deadline (but 24+ hours before your appointment): £100 fee.
Within 24 hours of visit, or a non attendance: full treatment cost charged.
